the living bible
This appropriated artist book is a living confession to the members of the artist’s family. Elements are handwritten in both English and Tagalog and act as a conversational confession that have never or will never occur between the artist and his loved ones. The phrase, “Patawarin mo po ako pagkat ako’y nagkasala” (forgive me for I have sinned) begins the confessionals.
The artist focuses on thoughts or internal dialogues that might not be possible between him and those he cares/cared about the most. The performative aspect of the handwritten confessions, the tight stitching and layering drives the ritualistic and conceptual action. The book explores the conflicts between homosexuality, religion, and the impact of religious culture on familial relationships.
