This artist book and constructed reliquary evokes the emotional beauty surrounding death. The sculpted lid is made from casted paper pulp and the box completely made from paper, aside from the plexi windows. The photographs come from a series of work that the artist refers to as the “Shrouded” series. The contained photographs are inspired by religious imagery, classical draped sculptures and more specifically The Veiled Christ by Giuseppe Sanmartino. The work is about existence and the ephemeral quality of everything living and the spiritual and religious aspect of death.
When the artist is ready to part, the book will be burnt along with the images it contains, and its ashes and remains will be held in the reliquary.
